How to Apply

How to Apply For an Accessory Dwelling Unit:

Accessory and Junior Dwelling Unit applications are available online.
Before applying online, please follow the steps below:

1. Review the Building Permit Submittal Requirements:

2. Meet with a City Planner (optional, but highly recommended)
We strongly encourage you to reach out to the Planning Department at (925) 779-6159 or via email at planning@antiochca.gov. This will help ensure that your project aligns with local regulations, including setbacks, lot coverage, and height requirements.

3. Prepare to submit your Application Online:
Please note that there is a required Regional Survey, hosted by the ABAG (Association of Bay Area Governments) for homeowners and other ADU applicants. Please complete the survey prior to permit application:

Required Documents for Application Submission

Please ensure that the following plans are prepared and included in the combined plan set.

A. Combined Plan Set
  • Site plan
  • Floor Plan
  • Elevations
  • Roof Plan
  • Structural Plan
  • Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical
  • Title 24 Energy Calculations
  • Structural Calculations
  • Manufactured Trusses

5. Pay Required Fees
Submit the necessary fees as issued by the Building Division to proceed with your application.

6. Plan Review and Processing
Once the applicable fees are paid, your ADU plans will be routed for review by the Building Inspectors, Planners, and, if necessary, the Engineering Division. Please allow up to 30 days for this process. The timeline may vary depending on the nature of comments and the responsiveness of both city staff and applicants during the review.

7. Permit Issuance
Following the completion of the review, the permit will be issued after the permit technician conducts a final review to ensure that all required information is submitted.
