Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

Pre-Approved ADU Plans

The City of Antioch offers Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) plans to residents interested in building an ADU on their property!

Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) plans are City approved design specifications and construction documents that streamline the permitting process for homeowners.

These plans make the review process the fastest and the most affordable way to build an ADU by allowing applicants to bypass some zoning and building regulations. With a pre-approved ADU plan, City staff will review and approve or deny your application within 30 days of submission.

There are reduced plan check fees if you use pre-approved plans! This translates into a cost savings of over $1,000 for a typical detached ADU.

What is the process for using a pre-approved plan?

step by step

Review the Pre-Approved ADU Plan Gallery to explore designs approved by Antioch staff. Note that modifications to these plans are not allowed; any changes will require City staff review and disqualify your application from the streamlined process.

Once you select a design, contact the designer to proceed with the Plan Access Fee and discuss pricing, options, and construction. After choosing your design and designer, work together to prepare a site plan and any necessary submittals, such as plumbing and electrical plans.

Finally, submit your application for a building permit via the City’s Civic Access Portal. Upon submission, you will be required to pay the plan check fees, after which City staff will review the application. Once the review is complete and all requirements are met, your permit will be approved.
